Another Artist in the Making

I've written about my daughters interest in the studio, but my son has taken me by surprise over the last week or so with his own creative endeavors.

Where my daughter will make art for the sake of making art. My son, however, needs a little more black and white approach. There has to be a concrete purpose behind it. It has to be very linear and tell a story. And nothing does that better for a kid than a comic strip.

So now my studio has early drafts of comic strips hanging around. And the best part is it's entirely his own doing.

Hee hee. I posted a comic my 4 year old contributed recently too!

You have to ask him if you can scan one and post it on your blog - I'd love to see a finished one!

I LOVE to see kids creating with their own thoughts on what "art" should be. They are not concerned about another person critiquing their work - just the process of creating. So glad to see your kids exploring their inner capacity to be artists!

You know, I've learned the best way to teach anyone anything is by just simply providing an example. An example of everything... want a child to have a good work ethic? Then have a good work ethic yourself. Want them to take an interest in reading? Then surround them with books, pick one up and start reading yourself.

A few decades of doodling can turn into a fruitful career as an artist. And I'm trying to provide that example to my children.
